Understanding an Adequacy-Based Approach to Funding Illinois Public Universities
In March 2024, the Illinois Commission on Equitable Public University Funding proposed a funding formula that centers adequacy, equity, and stability by ensuring that students, based on their unique needs, have access to supports and resources they can use to enroll and succeed in universities across the state. Illinois Higher Education Funding and The Path Toward Adequacy, Equity, & Sustainability
Together, Advance Illinois, the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, Partnership for College Completion, Women Employed, and Young Invincibles lay out the case for a better approach to supporting Illinois’ public universities and highlight the critical components of an equity-driven, student-centered funding model, as proposed by the Commission on Equitable Public University Funding. This new approach will ensure every institution has the resources needed to sufficiently serve the diverse student groups they enroll.
